Endless Activities Near Nuneaton
Visiting Nuneaton? There’s something for everyone in the largest town in Warwickshire.
Due to its central location and excellent transport links, Nuneaton is a great hub for activities. It's also the perfect spot for your next staycation. Here at Lets Stay we love exploring North Warwickshire, so we've put together a guide to some of our favourite attractions in the area. This means you don't have to think twice about planning your days.
Top of the list for us is Arbury Hall, the birthplace of George Eliot. An English novelist, poet, journalist, translator and one of the leading writers of the Victorian era, George Eliot was in fact a pseudonym of Mary Ann Evans. With luscious parkland and over 100 acres to explore, the area is full of history. Spend an afternoon here learning about the lives of the Newdegate family who resided here for over 400 years. You can tie this in with visits to the ancient churchyards of Nuneaton and Chilvers Coton, where you can find monuments to the people featured in her novels.
Fun for all the family
For some family fun, head to Hoar Park Craft Village where you can visit the Children's Farm. See pets such as guinea pigs and rabbits, as well as ducks, geese, sheep and a kunekune pig. The newly hatched chicks, ducklings and pygmy goats are super cute and always a hit with the kids!
You can browse the huge collection of retail and craft outlets housed in some impressively converted 17th century barns before heading down to fishery, which has five lakes packed with many species of fish, including carp, tench, roach, bream and catfish. If you’re feeling peckish, the award-winning on-site restaurant serves both hot and cold food for you to enjoy.
Conveniently located just 11 miles north of Nuneaton, Twycross Zoo boasts around 500 animals from almost 150 species. It also has the largest collection of monkeys and apes in the Western World. It’s the only zoo in the UK to exhibit all four types of great ape: gorilla, orangutan, chimpanzee and bonobo (the only bonobos in the country).
Want to help support the conservation of endangered species? 37% of the animals in Twycross Zoo's collection are classed as near threatened, vulnerable, endangered or critically endangered. Many of the animals are part of conservation programs, ensuring the future of species that are threatened with extinction. The animal exhibits are split into eight zones including: Conservation Way, Kingdom of the Apes, Life in the Trees and Himalaya. This is sure to be a roaring success with the kids!
Explore the Outdoors
Nuneaton has some great public parks that you can visit free of charge. One of our favourites is Hartshill Hayes Country Park. Here you can explore the beautiful woodland and get incredible panoramic views over the Anker Valley, and on a clear day you can see four counties! Get your cameras ready for some great photo opportunities!
Bosworth Water Park has 50 acres of open parkland, scenic walks and lakeside beaches. Seasonal activities and events ensure there's something for everyone all year round. There's 20 acres of lakes for sailing, canoeing, and stand up paddle boarding, or you can hire a pedalo if that’s more your style! There's also private watersports lessons available for all levels so, whether you're a beginner or a more experienced sailor, you can take your sport to the next level by having a session with a qualified instructor. It's an idyllic spot for relaxing, paddling or even just building some sandcastles.
If you're looking for some activities with the kids then look no further than the Black Pearl Adventure Playground, or you can try your hand at Pirate Island Crazy Golf! Quench your thirst with a refreshing drink from the cafe, which also offers great value snacks and hot food.
Whether you fancy a leisurely stroll with the dog, a fun-filled day with the family or just want to spend some time away from the hustle and bustle of everything, Bosworth Water Park is the place for it! If your four legged friend is joining you on your stay, we've got even more tips over here.
We hope you will love Nuneaton as much as we do! We'd love to hear your reviews if you visit any of our recommendations, and let us know if there’s anywhere you'd add to our list in the North Warwickshire area: we're always keen to try new things!
Happy travelling!
