National Walking Month
May is National Walking Month
This year, May has started with three days of holiday. With the 1st being a Saturday and the Bank Holiday, the month started with a welcome three-day weekend. But, did you know that May is National Walking Month? Throughout May, people are encouraged to get outside in the fresh air. As the cold winter weather recedes, what better time to get out for a walk?
Living Streets organise National Walking Month. The event is more important this year than ever before thanks to the pressures of the pandemic. Living Streets explain: "Walking is good for our minds, our bodies, our neighbourhoods and has been a lifeline during the past year, helping people stay active and connected. That’s why we want everyone to keep going and pledge to #WalkThisMay!"
Set in the Heart of North Warwickshire, Abbey Green View makes the ideal base for walking. The Coventry Canal provides an easy but enjoyable route for a casual outing. Plus, Warwickshire County Council maintains the local public footpaths reasonably well. So, there is something for everyone and every level of ability.
To help our guests, Boomer, the office hound, has taken Joolz and Ian out researching. Between them, they have found and documented some circular walks around Nuneaton. The walks start and end at Abbey Green View and provide some information about the area. Although the series is not yet completed, the first walk is available. It makes an ideal complement to National Walking Month.
On their website, Living Streets are asking people to pledge how many short walks they will do in May. Everyone who pledges will be entered into a prize draw. So it might be worth heading over and taking a look. If you are out walking in May you can share the hashtag #WalkThisMay and encourage more people to walk.
