5 great places for food and drink in Nuneaton

When you visit a new place, trying the local food scene is all part of the experience. Check out our top five recommendations for food and drink that you can try whilst you're in the area.

All of the first four options on this list are within half a mile of our Nuneaton residence, Abbey Green View, meaning it will take less than 15 minutes to walk to them. Our final recommendation is slightly further afield, but it's still only five minutes away in the car (and it's well worth the visit).

India Red
You'll spot India Red just as you leave Nuneaton train station. If you fancy a curry with a twist this is the place to go! The menu will transport you to the north of India, adding elements of East Africa, where a lot of Indian migrants have influenced the taste and flavours for the food. The chefs are handpicked and have worked in some of the finest restaurants and hotels in Mumbai, Delhi and Dubai. India Red caters to all diets with many vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options. The portions are generous and the price is extremely good too - what’s not to like?!

Alara Bistro & Grill
Perched right next to the River Anker, you'll find Alara Bistro & Grill. Their extensive menu serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, and also has vegetarian and vegan options so there's something for everyone. While the focus here is definitely on premium brewed coffee and baked products, you'll find light options for lunch (think sandwiches and jacket potatoes) and a Mediterranean and Italian-inspired evening menu. If you’re around on a Friday or Saturday night then there’s a dedicated steak menu, and we’ve also heard they do a delicious Sunday dinner. With a Google rating of 4.6 out of 5, this should definitely be on your list!

Crossed Khukris Gurkha Restaurant
Crossed Khukris offers the best authentic Nepali dishes around! A family run restaurant, Crossed Khukris is extremely popular with the locals and has been serving the people of Nuneaton since 1998. There is a huge range of dishes on the menu and you can dine in or get a delivery - whatever tickles your fancy! Crossed Khukris is another restaurant with a very high 4.6 out of 5 rating on Google.

The Felix Holt - Wetherspoons
Sometimes all you need is some good pub grub and you can’t go wrong with a Wetherspoons pub! Head to the Felix Holt for some great comfort food and drinks that are budget friendly. The menu is extensive (to be expected from Wetherspoons!) and you'll also find a range of real ales, craft beers and freshly ground Lavazza coffee on offer. Fun fact: This pub actually takes its name from a fictional character created by Nuneaton-born author George Eliot in her famous novel published in 1866!

Sweeney's Slice & Grind
If you need to get your caffeine (or pizza) fix, you should seriously think about heading to Sweeney's Slice & Grind. This neat hole-in-the-wall fashioned out of an old horse box is notorious for its real authentic sourdough pizza and, of course, its speciality coffee. Sweeney’s is new to Nuneaton - only opening in 2020 - and is run by Craig and his wife, Michelle. Craig was a pastry chef and baker for many years, working up and down the country with some big name chefs, including James Martin. Only the very best ingredients are used, ensuring quality is always a top priority, and their coffee has been carefully sourced after visiting many roasters. This is perhaps the biggest reason that they are rated a perfect 5 out of 5 on Google! You can often find them at their regular pop-up at the White Lion Pub, Croft Road, where there’s free parking and outdoor seating spaces available. Supporting an independent business is alway a win for us!

There’s such a great variety of excellent food here in Nuneaton. You certainly won’t be struggling to find somewhere that you want to get some food. More than likely the problem will be choosing which one of the options you'll be going for!
